Quip Electric Toothbrush Review: More Subscription Than Innovation

The Quip is a well-designed electric toothbrush, but your subscription may not be up to your schedule.

Can Quip do the dental hygiene thing Dollar Shave did to prepare men? As attractive as anything Apple has designed, the Quip electric toothbrush made of metal and plastic is definitely for those who like the most elegant things. But if I appreciate the sleek design of Quip, the toothbrush does not feel very different, and his subscription cycle, which sends him a spare head and toothpaste every three months, feels hurried. After spending a lot of time cleaning my white pearls, I wonder if it should have been hype, not the quip.

Since this is not the type of device we normally consider in Tom's guide, I contacted Dr. Jessica Hilburg, a dentist, and vice-dean for clinical affairs at the School of Dentistry, University of Toronto. New York University. York, help us reach our final grade.

Design
I have to give it to Quip, the toothbrush metal bar feels better than anything I've ever used as if the company had used the same metal supplier as Apple for their iPad backups. The on/off brush button also provides a solid feel for every click, although cheaper competitors like my previous toothbrush, the Pro-Health Pulsar Oral-B (two for $ 9.49 on Amazon), offer the same feeling.
In his promotional material, however, Quip does not position his brush against less expensive models but suggests that he does not need all the accessories that other toothbrushes offer. These feelings mean that there is no bulky magazine, one, a simpler way and "no color/angle stuff". That says Quip, "excludes things that do little but increase prices while trying to" provide a cleaner, more honest and healthier clean ".

Quip includes a cadet who wants him to stick to a mirror or other surface to keep him away from other brushes and his toilets. But I'm not one of those who hit my walls or mirror, so this thing was thrown in the bin as soon as I got it in the mail.

Hilberg does not sell with the power of design and tells me that "a sleek design is aesthetically pleasing, but I do not know if it will make people keep their dental [maintenance]." In my experience, it was a small reason to remember, something like buying new workout clothes to convince you to go to the gym more often.

To wash your teeth
In addition to the feeling of holding my Quip in metal, everything seemed normal to me when I started using it. The vibrating head just shakes the hair, the same experience as with my old vibrating toothbrush that was bought in the store.

Within 2 minutes, the quip stops once every 30 seconds, which is a great way to remind him to brush his entire mouth. However, it does seem that I did not pay enough attention when I received the quip because it took me months to realize that I had a timer that stopped after 2 minutes.

It turns out that I'm not the only one. "Patients often clean less than 3 minutes," says Hilburg, before they say that 2 minutes is the best time to brush their teeth. Sure, I hurt it.

The main distinguishing feature of the Quip toothbrush is that the company sends replacement brushes every three months for $ 5 per capita. Unfortunately, when I finished my first three-month subscription period, I did not feel the need to update myself. The brush head shows no signs of aging, so I disabled the subscription program.
Compared to other electric toothbrushes with interchangeable heads, the Quip is initially affordable but more expensive in the future. The Oral-B Pro 1000 initially costs the same $ 45, but you sell eight spare heads for $ 13, which are reduced to $ 1.63 per head, compared to the $ 5 head of Quip.

Hilburg told me that the need for new brushes (or brush heads in this case) will not be the same for all brushes, but it depends on how "the bristles are held in time". She said that if "the sows are crushed, lose their shape or become too flexible, they are less effective".

Since I had not observed any of these problems in my Quip brush head, I continued to use it. I contacted Quip to see if they would consider less frequent subscriptions. However, wrapping my Oral B toothbrush at normal age also recommends having a new toothbrush every three months.

Quip also sells a combined brush head and toothpaste set that ships every three months and costs $ 10 per refill. As with the Quip brush, I did not feel the need to buy more toothpaste because I had not finished his 4.7-ounce toothpaste tube for three months. Hilburg told me, however, that this size container "would probably be a good deal for three months."

Maybe the big tube should be split, maybe I did not use it enough. The Quip website suggests that people clean between meals, morning and evening. I've tried every day to make my quip and toothpaste between home and work, and I've discovered that this creates another opportunity to make a mistake that makes me forget it in my purse. Night.

Quip replacement brush heads
So what happens if you get a new Quip brush head? Fold and remove the brush head and remove the motor and the underlying AAA battery. Quip does not say if the battery should run out in three months, but it's still strong for me. Each refill comes with a new AAA battery so you can replace it and push it backward.

Surprisingly simple, considering how beautiful this product is and how we were prepared to expect no replaceable batteries in polished technology.

Quint Mint toothpaste
Quip's Mint Anticavity Toothpaste offers a fairly normal taste and mousse. I showed hello

Lburg is its ingredients and has approved its key ingredients, sodium monofluorophosphate, which protects teeth from tooth decay and fluoride.

She said sodium lauryl sulfate "is considered a controversial ingredient," but stated that it is up to consumers to "do their homework" and "decide what they think is right." A bit of research shows that some have argued that sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is carcinogenic, but many, including Snopes, have argued and discredited this argument.

Bottom line
The biggest advantage of Quip is, in addition to its elegant design, the automatic loading program. Do you need to be reminded to buy new toothbrushes? If you've seen your age bad over the years, but have not done anything to fix it, the Quip may be right for you. But it is more expensive and offers no advantage over other replaceable heads for electric toothbrushes. For those who can remember to have a new toothbrush more often, you can pass the quip.
