Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 Review: Noise Cancelling and Cheap

The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 headphones provide a balanced sound without frills, but with superior noise reduction performance.

The $ 119 ATH-ANC9 Audio-Technica hearing aids offer a no-frills design with outstanding Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) performance, balanced sound and a price that's not too heavy to swallow. You can not turn heads, but their off-axis design will not make you feel uncomfortable on the bus, train or plane.
design
The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 presents one of the simplest helmet models I've ever seen. While other models use bright accents and chrome accents to stand out, the ATH-ANC9 is based on a more generic matte black plastic design with small dark silver accents on the outside of the headphones. The build quality is good, and although it is almost entirely plastic, the headset does not sound crisp, even if you turn and bend the headband and earmuffs.

On the outside of the left earbud are the active noise canceling on / off switch and a button that changes the ANC mode used by the headset. In the upper part of the left earphone, there is an LED that flashes blue, red or green, depending on which mode is active.

Unlike other models that use a folding mechanism, the hearing aids of the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 simply rotate 90 degrees so that they can remain tilted in their hard and black housing. Inside is a bag with the two included cable pairs, an adapter from 1/4 to 1/4 inch and a two-pronged aircraft adapter (slightly less relevant) with velcro in the box.

Convenience

When I used ATH-ANC9 for the first time, I felt it put too much pressure on my jaw. After a few weeks, however, they felt very well

The replaceable earpads and faux leather headband were generally comfortable during several listening sessions, each lasting several hours. Synthetic leather is also pretty soft, and earmuffs make a decent job of blocking outside noise.

Unlike most other earmuffs I've tried, the ATH-ANC9 is wired and uses a detachable cable. You get two cables, one with a microphone and a tracking control module inline and the other as a straight audio cable.

control

The use of ATH-ANC9 is easy to change with very few controls or settings. It takes about a minute to remove the battery-adding cart and replace it with the right earphone. When you are ready to change, simply connect one of the two cables supplied to the device and the headphone jack.

Active noise cancellation

Active noise reduction in ATH-ANC9 is pretty good. I compared this headset with the Sennheiser 4.50 BTNC during a three-hour flight to New York, and Audio-Technicas left me speechless. In fact, it did not seem to be a fair comparison as Audio-Technica was much better.

Audio quality

The ATH-ANC9 may not be the strangest headset on the ear, but its 40mm drivers generally give listeners a balanced sound profile. These headphones provide a complete listening experience without weakening in the upper register or blaring in the bass. I realized that some songs sometimes seemed hollow with the ANC circuit. The activation of the ANC offered a slight increase in volume (+1 to 2 decibels) and, as expected, eliminated some external noise, including the low hum of my ceiling fan and the noise of passing traffic. my window

Battery life

As mentioned above, the ATH-ANC9 uses an AA battery to operate the active noise cancellation circuit as compared to the Sennheiser which has a built-in rechargeable battery powered by a micro-USB.

Audio-Technica says the headphones will last up to 35 hours. But I burned batteries several times after forgetting to switch off the headphones after an improvisation. It's really frustrating. You can still hear the headphones when the battery is dead, but you will not hear sound when the ANC switch is on.
Bottom line
At $ 199, the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 headphones are comfortable and enjoyable to hear. The best feature by far is the adjustable active noise reduction, as the modes allow you to stay calm in any environment you are in. They're not the most stylish helmets I've ever seen and I do not like them. Use a cable to change the batteries.

If you are looking for headphones that do not interfere with the cable, you can watch the Sennheiser 4.50 BTNC for $ 199. They sacrifice the ANC but get a wireless experience and the freedom of AA batteries. In general, the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 headphones are a great option for consumers who are not bothered by a wired headset who want a solid audio player with an excellent ANC and are not looking for a flashy design.

Cher does not always mean good. There are many cheap headphones and headphones that can provide you with solid audio quality with many features.

The best active headphone with noise reduction

A good set of active noise cancellation headphones can mean the difference between a journey and a quiet and chaotic journey. Use the Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones for the sleek design, the best noise reduction and the clearest audio quality, and add a dedicated Google Assistant activation button. Some of the best headphones on the market have become much smarter.

The best headphones under $ 20

HC-RETs provide the sound quality normally found in much more expensive headsets. Outbreaks have reproduced low thunder, narrow average ranges, and natural heights that have made us bad for people who have paid much more for their high-end buds.

The best headphones with less than $ 30

The Behringer HPS3000 Studio Headphones deliver skilfully clear, airy voices with bright strings, drums, and percussive bass, depending on the song. Despite the awkward design, the headphones are surprisingly lightweight and come equipped with a 1/4 inch connector if you want to connect them to a stereo, mixer or guitar amp.

The best headphones with less than $ 100

Who said you have to pay a small fortune to get some quality headphones? The $ 99 wireless Jabra Move headphones provide a fun and colorful design that is also very durable. You can expect a clear and balanced sound that does not go crazy on the bass. Wireless cans last up to 12 hours with one charge, meaning you can swing and burn for a full day's work.

The best wireless headphones

More intelligent, sexier and technically savvy, Plantronics BackBeat Pro 2 headphones maintain the smart, intuitive, integrated controls we know and love, and refine the overall design. The company has restructured the audio to provide a warm sound with the right amount of bass. The cans also provide active-active noise cancellation for when you need a degree of peace and quiet.

How did we test the headphones?

Each pair is used for one week for 2 hours each. During this test phase, the staff rates comfort, ease of use and, of course, audio quality. In terms of features, we tested the effectiveness of active noise cancellation, Bluetooth range, and battery life. In training-oriented models, we test how they do powerful workouts, assess their safety during training, and how to deal with environmental sounds such as weight loss and weight loss. Spent More Than $200 on Headphones

For some people, the $ 50 cheap headphones are pretty good, and I thought I was one of them.

And then one morning I woke up, I put on headphones on a pair of $ 299 - the BeoPlay H6, the second generation ($ 300 on Amazon) - and realized that he currently has that both Jon Snow headphones: nothing

I heard "hand covers the bruise" the score of the social network about 100 times, but I had never heard it opened as clearly as I did in the morning, I logged on my helmet H6 iPhone 6 Plus. I thought the Glitchy synthesizer would really be violin strings. He realized that he would never again buy a pair of headphones for less than $ 200.

Excellent audio quality
The saying "you get what you pay for" is certainly true for headphones. Different couples can achieve fantastic sound in many ways. Headphones Top quality, rugged, can be used with larger speakers that may contain the largest drivers (such as 40mm drivers that we find in some of the headsets we love) that produce a more accurate sound.

Some high-end headphones make their price for the sound and make voices and instruments more natural. The recordings of live music LCD sound system "Dance Yrself Clean" (Live at Madison Square Garden) "sound fantastic, with a spacious studio. Pat Mahoney's fast drums, James Murphy's tortured voice, and distorted bass come out of the speakers.

Thanks to its patented active noise cancellation, the Bose QuietComfort 35 ($ 349 compared to the Amazon) offers a totally immersive vacation experience. "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie and the light and choppy piano keys of "The Graceless" by The National.

Premium and thoughtful design
In addition to better sound quality, a pair of expensive headphones usually offers a beautiful design with high-quality materials. After all, these headphones are better and more comfortable with the cost. Climbing H6 Gen 2 my old Skullcandy Aviator ($ 107 on Amazon) felt close to the raw softness of being jumped pillowy is sewn seat of a Bentley Continental driver.

The H6 stroked the sides of my face with his cups of lambskin, frankly, some of the best material I've ever had. Although I just had it, it's clear that this is not the case with my cowboy band.

Where do you use them?
If you like to listen to your music in the privacy of your own home or backyard, you need to consider the Hifiman HE400S ($ 299 at Amazon) open headphones. They ensure the precise and balanced mix of low, medium and high tone resistance because the design of the media avoids hoods closed to prevent the audio from escaping. Even better, these headphones do not need an amplifier like many high-end headphones.

Look at your ports
Therefore, think about what the headset will connect to. Quality Control 35 and the Backbeat Pro2 are connected via Bluetooth, making them compatible with most devices, but the H6 uses traditional headphone jack 3.5mm. That means I'll have to buy an iPhone 7, Z Force Moto Droid or Z or an upcoming phone leaving the analog connection.

For the future of high-quality headphones test, check the version of the Audeze Sine ($ 495 on Amazon) includes headphones a flash plug. These cans created a spacious soundscape with clear and powerful high and midbass, and the company could have recharged twice as much.

Plantronics Voyager Legend Review

What Everyone Is Saying About Plantronics Voyager Legend

Plantronics Voyager Legend Wireless Bluetooth Headset - Compatible with iPhone, Android, and Other Leading Smartphones - Black
The Voyager Legend is an excellent Bluetooth headset, combining fantastic calling performance with many hands-free features and incredible battery life. The Plantronics Voyager Legend has excellent audio quality and noise canceling capabilities, as well as a sophisticated charger that lasts for hours. The headset also has hands-free capabilities and clear call quality. For these and many other reasons, the Top 10 Silver Awards win the best Bluetooth headset. About calls, We tested the Plantronics Voyager Legend for several days in different environments to get an idea of how its microphones and speakers work, and we were very impressed. The initial customization process is extremely simple. All you have to do is turn on the headset and select it in the setup menu of your smartphone. If you pair it with an additional device, just press the voice button and say "pairing". Both processes take less than a minute each. Unlike our first choice, this headset does not support NFC. With NFC, you can touch the headset with the phone to pair it. To get an idea of the audio quality of the Bluetooth headsets, we made a call on a windy day by walking near our office. For our part, the call was clear and static. The person on the other hand also had no complaints. In fact, they did not even know we were wearing a Bluetooth headset: they could not hear the traffic or the kids were playing in a nearby playground. Most headphones have difficulty blocking the wind, but like the Voyager Edge, they did a fantastic job. We tested the quality of the speaker by asking the caller to recite parts of John F. Kennedy's opening speech while the person wearing the headset transcribed what they heard. We compared the transcription of the critic with the real speech and found that nothing in the translation was lost. We also tested the microphone by calling a Google Voice number and recording conversations in three different environments: out on a windy day, in our office and in a car. We discovered that Legend Voyager did a respectable job in all environments: it removed almost all background noise without distorting our voices. The only sounds he tried to filter were car horns and sirens. Hands-free Calls This headset has buttons to answer and end calls and to adjust the volume, and a main button to initiate voice commands. If you press it, you can use four different commands: "Pair mode" to connect the headset to another device. "Am I connected?" To check the status of the connection, "check the battery" to see the amount of battery in the device and "call back" to recall the last person who called you. The Voyager legend can access your contact list to call by voice and for the purpose of the caller ID. Some other headsets may announce the number of the caller, but not the name of the caller, even if they are in your contact list. Like other headsets, he interacts with Siri and Google Assistant to compose messages, make appointments, and check the weather. We had a small complaint: we thought the control button was too small. It's a bit hard to find and it's hard to get used to, even if it's easier to push if you have long nails. Convenience The Voyager Legend is heavier and heavier to carry than other Bluetooth headsets. It weighs 0.63 ounces, with most of the weight sitting on a hook on the ear that looks like a hearing aid. Although it's the heavier handset we've tried, it's not bulky or unbalanced. In our stability tests, we tried to shake the device up and down the stairs, but the helmet did not move. As we shook our heads violently, the gasket loosened and needed only a quick adjustment. Legend is one of the most suitable Bluetooth headsets and comes with three different headsets: small, medium and large. The headphones are waterproof to protect the headphones from moisture such as sweat and rain. You can wear this helmet in the rain or in the gym without having to worry about the damage caused by the water. Although we thought other headphones would be more comfortable.

Different Kind of Bluetooth Headset

VXi BlueParrott B450-XT Noise Canceling Bluetooth Headset
battery To test the battery life, we played a 10-hour Learn to Speak French track through the headphones at 50% of the volume. We convert the MP3 track to mono because the Bluetooth headphones do not play stereo sound. The legend has a talk time of 7.5 hours, which is one of the best times of our review. Your waiting time is 11 days, which is also above average. In addition, it only takes 1.5 hours to charge, which is half an hour faster than most other headsets. For protection and while charging, Plantronics includes a hardshell loading box. In this case, an additional ear piece can be stowed. You can add 14 hours of conversation to your device, giving you a total of 21 hours of free time. When your headset's battery is dead, you no longer have to worry about finding a plug or charging your laptop's battery. In this case, you can safely stow your Bluetooth headset when you are not using it. Helpdesk Product support from Plantronics is widespread. The headset comes with a one-year limited warranty. The support site includes application downloads, PDF user guides, and a Frequently Asked Questions page. If you can not find an answer to your question, you can speak to customer service directly by phone, email or live chat. The customer service team strives to answer your emails the next business day. Summary The Plantronics Voyager Legend is one of the best Bluetooth headsets available. It combines high-quality audio cancellation and noise cancellation technology with convenient hands-free control. Not only is it safe and stable, it also has a long battery life of over seven hours, and the charging case extends even further.

Jabra Steel Bluetooth Headset Review

Jabra Steel Ruggedized Bluetooth Headset (US Version) - Black

Usually, Bluetooth headsets are made from plastic, but Jabra took a different approach when it created its Steel Bluetooth headset. It is much more durable than other headsets and sports a hard case to protect it from the elements. Of all the Bluetooth earpieces we tested, the Jabra Steel is the only one that is resistant to water, drops and dust. Jabra created this headset for trades people who work in rough, loud environments, so the headset’s noise-cancelling technology is top notch. You don’t need to wear a hard hat and wield a jackhammer to take advantage of its dual microphones, though. During our tests, we found that the headset did a fine job blocking out the normal, less-intense noises you probably deal with every day: the wind, traffic and pedestrians. Its audio quality was strong both on our end and the other party’s. There is even a wind sock you can put on the headset on extremely windy days. Despite having a thicker casing than other headsets, the Steel weighs just .35 ounces. It’s jet black and looks utilitarian. Since this is Jabra’s most rugged headset, the company includes an impressive five-year warranty. You can wear it with or without the ear hook and pick from three different size ear-gels to ensure a tight seal. Our reviewers with smaller ears didn’t feel like the headset fit them as well as others. We wouldn’t go as far as saying the headset is uncomfortable, but we don’t think it is the best option if you are going to wear it for long periods of time because of its large speaker. During our stability tests, the Steel mostly stayed in our ears. It never fell out when ran up and down the stairs or shook our heads vigorously. However, it didn’t keep its seal and required adjusting, unlike the Plantronics Voyager Edge. We were more than impressed with the Steel’s battery life. Jabra claims you get six hours of talk time, and we stretched that a little further to 6.33 hours. The headset was easy to pair with our phone – just powering it on initiates the pairing process. It’s also one of the few headsets that can also pair with NFC instead of Bluetooth. The Steel’s buttons are large and easy to find. You can even use the headset while wearing gloves. Other headsets’ buttons are tiny, and it can take a little while to get used to them. Our only gripe is there are no volume controls. If you plan to rely solely on voice control, you can tell the headset to redial, call the last person who called you, check the headset’s battery, and interact with Siri and Google Assistant.

Summary

We found that the Jabra Steel is a fantastic Bluetooth headset. It has good battery life, does an effective job blocking external noises and is resistant to the elements. However, some people may find it too large and too utilitarian looking or consider its lack of volume controls a deal.
