Samsung could have found a way to eliminate the notch and unsightly bevels around its screen to deliver what could be a much more compelling visual experience this year, Galaxy Note 9.
The people of Let's Go Digital have discovered a Samsung patent filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) showing a smartphone with no notches or chamfers. But just like the phones that come with these features, the Galaxy Note 9 still has headphones, a microphone, and front cameras.
According to Let's Go Digital, the patent describes how Samsung could actually make holes in the screen and place components behind it that would use those holes. For example, the screen would come with a hole for the helmet or one that would carry a fingerprint sensor in front of the physical one. Everywhere the phone would be covered by his screen.
Apple iPhone X has what some consider controversial design. The device eliminates chamfers around the screen to put the content in front of and in the middle but has a nasty cut at the top where the headphones and front camera are placed. The notch does not extend across the screen but generally detracts from the user experience.
Samsung also offers in its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 series bezels above and below the screen, which is used similarly to host components. But these areas do not go down or interrupt the screen.
Samsung's patent suggests that there is a development in the design of smartphones and the iPhone X, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 are a temporary stop for a smartphone whose face is completely covered by a screen.
For the future, it is possible that the technology described in the patent reaches the Galaxy Note 9. It is also interesting, however, that Samsung, like other large companies, always registers patents. And it is possible that he will never reach a device.
