Galaxy Note 8 Review: Redemption Never Looked So Good

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the best full-screen mobile phone to date thanks to its versatile dual cameras, S Pen extensions, and a stunning 6.3-inch display.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a big-screen phone that gets your attention, not just because it's an extension of a device that the company needs to remember. Because Note 8 marks the beginning of a new class of smartphones that is Super Premium.

With a price between $ 930 and $ 960 (depending on the carrier), the new Samsung Phablet has the highest price of all classic Android phones. But Note 8 tries to justify its super-premium price with the first dual-camera configuration that Samsung had; the largest screen offered by Samsung with 6.3 inches; and a slew of new tips for S Pen. Note 8 also offers more RAM than the Galaxy S8 and S8 + and a new smart way to multitask.

Is this all between $ 80 and $ 100 more than the Galaxy S8 + already big and loaded? After spending a week on grade 8, I said yes.

Design: the ultimate phablets
With its curved infinity screen that stretches almost from edge to edge, the glass front of the Galaxy Note 8 is simply mind-blowing. In fact, it makes other big screen phones like the LG V30, Google Pixel XL and iPhone 7 Plus look sloppy.

I know what you're wondering: is 6.3 inches too big? In fact, no, and I have pretty little hands. This is because this phone has the same narrow size of 18.5: 9 as the Galaxy S8 and S8 +. I discovered that I could stretch my hand out with my thumb on the screen, but since the design of the note is very high, sometimes I had to reposition the phone in my hand to point at the top or bottom of the screen.

Samsung deliberately made the curves on this screen less severe than those on the S8 or S8 +, giving it more room for the pen. I seek these edges steeper because they also help visually distinguish grade 8 from their siblings. However, I would like Samsung to offer more color options in the US. UU That this phone really stands out. US airlines offer black and gray orchids at midnight, but I also want the gold and blue versions available overseas to arrive in the United States.

On the back, you will find two lens cameras and a fingerprint reader to the right of the flash. I'm not a fan of this placement a little uncomfortable because it would be easier if the sensor were under the camera. It did not always work on the first try; Fortunately, you can log in by face detection or iris scan.

With a size of 6.4 x 2.9 x 0.34 inches and a weight of 6.9 ounces, Note 8 is on the heavy side, but it feels fairly balanced in my hand. By comparison, the S8 + is slightly shorter at 6.3 inches, but significantly lighter at 6.1 ounces. However, this is to be expected since the grade 8 carries a pin.

Best Smartphones of 2017

Like the Galaxy S8, Note 8 is water resistant. It's also pretty difficult. I accidentally ran on the screen and it did not break.

Screen: a big and beautiful canvas with more purpose
With the 6.3-inch Infinity display on the Note 8, you can drop your jaw before you put it in your hands. Samsung has found a new and ingenious way to optimally use the ad space similar to a billboard.

For starters, the Note 8 screen is deliciously colorful. He was hypnotized by Cyborg's multi-faceted silver armor in the Justice League trailer and his piercing red eye. When I played Mortal Kombat X, I marveled at how amazing the heads of my enemy were when they escaped.

Two cameras: incredible photos, great flexibility
Samsung is not just trying to catch the two cameras in Grade 8. It jumped at least in front of the iPhone. This is because the two 12-megapixel cameras in this camera provide optical image stabilization; The telephoto lens of the iPhone 7 Plus does not have this feature.

What can you do with these two shooters? For starters, you get a 2x optical zoom with a single touch on the screen. In Union Square, I could easily approach a statue from a distance without losing any detail.

You'll also get a new live focus mode, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus's portrait mode, which blurs the background and makes your subject more visible. But only grade 8 allows you to adjust the intensity of this effect before and after recording.

S Pen: new tips (with some wrinkles)
Samsung has expanded the appeal of the S Pen in recent years, and the rating of 8 brings it to a new level.

To get started, you can now take up to 100 pages of notes with the memory off. Just pull the pen and start writing. It's easy to write notes on the screen and edit notes. I found this feature at my fingertips by crossing items from my to-do list and shopping lists.

Battery life: surprisingly good
We'll have to wait and see if the Note 8 battery meets Samsung's security standards, but I can say that the phone takes a long time to charge. Although the capacity of 3300 mAh battery is slightly lower than that of the battery in grade 7, like the Galaxy S8 + battery (both 3,500 mAh), it has received excellent results.

Performance: more RAM, serious power
Note 8 has the same Snapdragon 835 processor as other Android browsers today, but it increases the ante with 6GB of RAM. Most other phones are equipped with 4GB of RAM; Exceptions are OnePlus 5, which can hold up to 8 GB of RAM.

Software: Bixby is undervalued
In addition to the extra features of S Pen and the split-screen multitasking app-pair feature, Bixby is the flagship of Note 8 software with Android 7.1.1. It's best not to consider Bixby as a direct competitor to Siri, but as a personal assistant that speeds up tasks that typically require multiple keys.

For example, I said, "Take a screenshot and show it in the gallery," and Note 8 did both tasks in sequence. I also liked the fact that I could add certain things to my to-do list by pronouncing them aloud, such as "Add" to agree to vacation days of "my to-do list". At first, Bixby thought I said "in court," but the mistake was easy to correct.

Accessories abound

The Galaxy Note 8 has a new design, so you'll definitely need a new case for this 6.3-inch monster. The good news is that there are many options, including an Alcantara suede cover, which is available in many colors. My favorite is the green.
Note 8 also supports a new version of the Gear VR headset ($ 129) for people who want to access a virtual reality. The headset is equipped with a motion controller to make the virtual experience even more intense.

Bottom line
Spending nearly $ 1,000 on a smartphone seems a bit crazy if you get a very good phone like the OnePlus 5 for less than $ 500. But note 8 is not only very good, it's great. The combination of its impressive 6.3-inch infinity display, two cameras, and a versatile S Pen make it a big-screen phone. Some people might want to wait for the iPhone 8, but if you're an Android fan, you do not have to search anymore.

Note 8 could be better in some aspects. The fingerprint sensor is in an awkward location, and the live news feature (no matter how innovative) does not always work the way it should. Then there is the price. If you do not need an S Pen and only want a large screen, you will be very satisfied with the 850 S8 Plus 850. But you will add extra weight to the Note 8 for its dual purpose and what you can do with it.
