Fugoo Style-S Review:The best Bluetooth speaker
Good portable Bluetooth speakers provide full sound and features like robustness without being too big; the best do it all and they are cheap. Fugoo's latest model, the $ 140 Style S, manages to test almost every box. This sleek and durable speaker delivers the best price-performance ratio and sounds almost as good as speakers that cost $ 200 or more.
Design
At 8.3 x 2.9 x 2.5 inches, the Style-S is slightly larger than the Fugoo style of 6.5 x 2.6 x 2.1 inches (a bargain at the current price of $ 90), though not as big as 11.33 x 4.52 x 3.81 inches Fugoo Style XL.
The Style-S shares the aesthetics of the style line: a beige mesh fabric surrounds the controllers while the black plastic seals the ends and bottom. However, the variety of colors offered by the style is missing.
In the upper part there are only three buttons: +, - and O. As expected + increases the volume and - reduces it. Use the O button to pause and play a song and enable Siri or Google Assistant. You can use combinations for additional functions, such as the + and O keys, to jump to the next track.
The right side displays the Bluetooth power and pairing buttons and an energy status LED indicator. Below a window on the left you will find the Micro USB port for charging the battery and a 3.5 mm AUX input for a cable connection.
Battery
Fugoo says you can play Style-S for 15 hours, and my tests are like that. However, it is disappointing that Style gets 40 hours full charge. The S-Style also has less battery life than the JBL Charge 3, which can be played for 20 hours.
To check the battery status, press the power button while the speaker is on and the voice prompt will say full, three quarters, half, quarter or low.
Resistance
Like other Fugoo speakers, the Style-S can handle many abuses. It has protection class IP67, which means that it is resistant to water (can dip into water) and to dust; can also resist dropping itI put it in a water-filled container for a few minutes and dropped it from the height of the table to the floor and continued playing without difficulty.
Performance
The Style-S delivers balanced sound across the full range (treble, mid and bass), making it a versatile musician. Exceeds the original style in all areas and even compete with more expensive speakers, such as the $ 200 US Boom 2. Although not as low as $ 150 JBL Charge 3 produces enough low-end to control the tempo.
In "The Ageless" of St. Vincent, the Style-S produced a satisfying satiety on the bass line, while the details on the distorted guitar were easy to hear. Charge 3 produces a little more noise, but guitars are harder to spot.
The Speaker
The Style-S can also function as a speaker, although it is average at best. Although it's easier to hear the voices on the other side of the call, the people I spoke with said that my voice was muffled with respect to using the iPhone's built-in speaker.
Wireless and configuration
I am simply connected via Bluetooth with the Style-S. Even more impressive was that the speaker was quickly reconnected to my phone each time I started it. The Style-S has a wireless range of 100 feet and has maintained a strong connection of more than 50 feet indoors.
You can not change the sound too much because Fugoo does not offer a mobile application like UE or JBL. You can switch to outdoor mode, which adds more bass to the sound.
Last Word
For the money you will not find a speaker that sounds better or has more features than the Fugoo Style-S. Although slightly larger than Style, the Style S has more bass and a bigger sound. It sounds almost as good as the EU boom 2 much more expensive. And it's as sturdy as any wireless speaker you can find.
The duration of the battery is the biggest drawback of the model; It offers less reading time than the JBL Charge 3 and much less than the original style. But if you do not need to extend the playing time before reloading, the Style-S has an excellent value.
